Despite the end of our project in August 2007, EMPOWERS local partners in the governorates, district and villages have continued with their work in implementing the activties and plans they developed during the time EMPOWERS Project was still being implemented.
In the Balqa Governorate, Jordan, our partners in the Governorate launhed the first phase in the establishment of an integrated water information management system (WIMS) that covers the different directorates and departments in the governorate. The EMPOWERS Partnership in Jordan was recently enhanced when the Queen Zein Al Sharaf Institute for Development (ZENID) joined in to work side by side with the Ministry of Agriculture, ‘CARE Jordan,’ and two regional partners, the Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM) and the International Water and Sanitation Centre (IRC).
The Directorate of Lands and Irrigation in the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture recently held an awareness workshop on EMPOWERS for the other ministries.
The EMPOWERS team organized a field visit to the participants in the 'Right to Water' Programme that is managed by the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) and funded by Heinrich Boell Foundation.
